A360 Celebrates National Disability Employment Awareness Month!
October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM), the 75th year NDEAM has been observed. Having employees with a range of disabilities is essential for businesses because such individuals often have unique and diverse perspectives. Hiring employees with disabilities also benefits businesses by making their culture and internal team(s) more diverse.
Here at A360, we have several employees with disabilities, including a number of auditors who are blind. Due to the fact that these individuals rely on screen readers and other pieces of assistive technology to navigate the Internet and mobile apps, as well as A360 being known for our industry leading Live-User Audits, these auditors are invaluable to A360’s mission of making websites and mobile applications accessible to all.
As part of A360 Co-founder and CRO Michele Landis’s work with the Minnesota Technology Association (MnTech), A360 audited several Minnesota employment websites and found that the majority were inaccessible to users with disabilities. This serves as a critical reminder to all organizations to ensure that their employee onboarding processes are fully WCAG Compliant. This ensures employees with disabilities have Equitable Access to employment. A digital application is the first step for everyone!
In addition to making your digital properties accessible, here’s how you can celebrate NDEAM throughout the month of October. This year’s theme is “Increasing Access and Opportunity.” This is the same theme as the 30th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), which was celebrated earlier this year. NDEAM, like the ADA, is a good reminder of the importance of hiring people with disabilities, starting with welcoming them with fully accessible applications and new hire onboarding.
