July 26 marks the 29th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the landmark piece of legislation concerning disability rights. Here are a few ways you and your company can celebrate:
- MN Department of Human Rights 29th Annual ADA Celebration: If you’re located in the Twin Cities area, join us at the Anderson Center in St. Paul from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. on July 26. The Celebration will feature violinist and songwriter Gaelynn Lea, and there will be a panel discussion on the history of discrimination and the ADA. Registration not required.
- “Reflections on the ADA: Past, Present and Future”: Virtually, you can register for the webinar “Reflections on the ADA: Past, Present, and Future,” which will be Tuesday, July 30 from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. Central Time (2:00 to 3:30 Eastern). The webinar will feature “perspectives on the evolution, current status, and future direction of the law” from disability rights attorney John Wodatch, and Marian Vessels, former director of the Mid-Atlantic ADA Center.
- Get a Free Quick Look of your website from A360: In honor of the 29th anniversary of the ADA, your company or organization can commit to a live-user accessibility audit of your website to ensure that your products and services are accessible to All. Want to see where your website stands on accessibility? Accessible360 offers a Free Quick Look (NOT as detailed as an audit!) that gives you a general overview of the accessibility of your site. Remember, the ADA is not just about physical accessibility!
These are just a few ways you can celebrate this historic law. The passage of the ADA was a major step forward for disability rights. Without the ADA, A360 may not exist!
